Summer Bridge - Health Science Day

Mrs. Lott, our Del Mar Health Science teacher, along with three of her current senior students, introduced our students to the Health Science pathway.

Students learned about the heart, its functions, and the different parts that keep it working. They also discussed the importance of proper handwashing—not only in everyday life, but especially in the healthcare field, where it can literally mean the difference between life and death.

To demonstrate the correct handwashing technique, students participated in a fun and interactive activity using shaving cream and gloves to show the importance of thoroughly cleaning every area of their hands.

The morning concluded with an introduction to the basics of CPR. Students had the opportunity to practice on manikins and learn a skill that could one day help save a life.

Summer Bridge - Del Mar Tour

On this afternoon, our P-TECH Summer Bridge students had the opportunity to visit the Heritage Campus of Del Mar College and learn about the many resources available to them as future college students. For many of our students, this was their first time stepping onto a college campus, making the experience both exciting and inspiring.

As an important academic partner of Sinton ISD, Del Mar College provides incredible opportunities for our students. Several of these future Pirates will soon begin their dual credit journey, earning college credits while still in high school and gaining a head start on their educational and career goals.

Students learned about academic support services, campus resources, and the many pathways available to help them succeed in college and beyond. Experiences like these help students envision their future and build confidence as they prepare for the next chapter of their academic careers.

We are proud to offer these opportunities free of charge to our students because Sinton ISD believes in the success of ALL students. Together with our partners, we are creating pathways that open doors and expand possibilities for every learner.

Summer Bridge - SHS Scavenger Hunt

Today’s focus was on what it takes to be successful as a high school student! As students prepare to transition to a larger campus with more class periods, higher expectations, and many more choices, they spent the day building skills that will help them thrive throughout high school and beyond.

Students began creating resumes that they can continue to update throughout their high school journey. They also learned how to use Canva and several Google applications that will support their academic success. Each student created a presentation slide about themselves, allowing them to share their interests, goals, and personalities.

To wrap up the morning, students participated in a high school scavenger hunt where they explored the campus, located important areas, and met key staff members who will help support them during their high school experience.

It was a morning full of learning, exploring, and preparing for a successful future! We are proud of the enthusiasm and engagement our future P-TECH students are showing.

Summer Bridge - Welder Wildlife Excursion

Our P-TECH Summer Bridge students enjoyed an exciting and educational visit to Welder Wildlife Refuge! Students toured the museum, which houses the Donald Bowman Bird Collection and the Francis Lee Jaques Art Collection.

The group also experienced a 10-mile driving tour through the refuge, exploring a variety of habitats ranging from upland mesquite mixed-grass communities to freshwater wetland lakes. Along the way, students learned about the history of the refuge, its wildlife, and the important conservation efforts that take place there.

It was a day filled with discovery, learning, and adventure, and our students thoroughly enjoyed the experience!

Summer Bridge - Ag Day

Monday was Agriculture Day for our incoming freshmen, giving students hands-on experience in the P-TECH Ag pathways!

In the morning, students explored agriculture career pathways and learned about FFA and the leadership opportunities it offers. They then took part in engaging activities, including “welding” joints using crackers and cheese, learning about animal health and injection procedures, and creating beautiful floral boutonnieres.

We were also excited to have our Ag Officers assisting our instructors and supporting students throughout the day.

Hydroponics

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of San Patricio County visited Mrs. Black’s GT classroom! Students had a great time learning about hydroponics and even helped set up their own system.

The session was led by Chery Handy and Bobby McCool, along with high school student Becca Wilson, an Ag Plant Science Practicum student, who shared her knowledge and experience.
